OTHM Level 7 Diploma in Environmental and Sustainability Management

The OTHM Level 7 Diploma in Environmental and Sustainability Management is a UK Ofqual-regulated, RQF Level 7 qualification equivalent to a master's degree. It is designed to develop learners' understanding of contemporary issues of sustainability and environmental management with inclusion of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) in policy, theory, and practice. The diploma provides knowledge underpinning the capability to work as an effective director or advisor in the environmental and sustainability sector. The qualification consists of 4 mandatory units and 5 optional units (candidates take 6 units total), totaling 120 credits and 1200 hours of Total Qualification Time with minimum 600 hours of Guided Learning Hours.

The diploma covers critical topics including environmental policies and legislation, sustainability principles, environmental risk and impact assessment, resource management and environmental auditing, ESG governance, and research methods for environmental sustainability. Learners develop understanding of sustainability as a physical phenomenon and its financial and non-financial impact on business performance. The qualification explores governance of private and public bodies, policy-making, and how leadership and culture impact sustainable change. Assessment is internally evaluated by the centre and externally verified by OTHM. The qualification is criterion-referenced based on achievement of specified learning outcomes.

Upon completion, learners are eligible to progress to Master's top-up programs with advanced standing at many universities in the UK and overseas. Graduates are well-positioned for roles including Environmental Director, Sustainability Consultant, Environmental Manager, Business Strategy Leader focused on sustainability, and policy-making positions. The diploma is designed to be delivered over one academic year for full-time study but accommodates part-time and distance learning options. Successful completion enables learners to work in business strategy, consulting roles, non-profit sector, and government positions focused on environmental and sustainability leadership.
